Hiking

HikingThere are numerous trails, many starting from the chalet, for all abilities. In July and August, some of the ski lifts in the Grand Massif open to carry hikers and mountain bikers high into the mountains. From the lifts, it is possible to walk to many of the refuges in the area for anything from a coffee to lunch to an evening meal and overnight stay.

We will be happy to put together an itinerary for you staying at the refuge

Mountain Biking (VTT)

Mountain BikingThere are dozens of graded mountain bike routes in the Giffre Valley for you to explore. These range from gentle rides along the valley bottom to extreme downhill tracks. It is well-known that the French are great cyclists and the road biking is excellent here as well. You can even follow some of the Tour de France route!

Rock climbing

There are over 750 routes within a 25 minute drive from the chalet. These are nearly all sport routes on fabulous limestone. The climbing at the Gorge de Tines, a 5 minute drive or 15 minute walk from the chalet, is superb with routes ranging from 4c to 8c+!!

Via Ferrata

There is the only Via Ferrata in the Giffre Valley just a 15 minute walk from the chalet. This is a must for anyone with head for heights and a sense of adventure! Equipment can be hired from hire shops in the village.

Rafting

There are several providers of river activities in the area - chalet guests can benefit from special rates with Sixt Aventure Passion. Activities include white-water rafting, kayaking and hydro-speed - tackling the rapids on a body board!! The Giffre river running through Sixt is a great location to experience these activities - and only a 3 minute walk from the chalet!
