Winter at Sixt Alpine Chalet
SIXT VILLAGE - (Resort Height 765m - 2200m)
The village of Sixt has its own small and un-crowded ski area, which enjoys a superb variety of slopes catering for all abilities (beginner to expert). It is an excellent area if you are holidaying with a mixed ability group. When the conditions are right there is excellent off piste powder skiing. There is also a good mix of bars on the lower slopes and on the upper slopes a bar perfectly located to watch the sun go down before your final decent of the day.

THE GRAND MASSIF AREA - (765m - 2480m)
The ski area in Sixt is also linked to the Grand Massif (265 km of piste's). Access to the Grand Massif ski area is via the Grand Massif Express, at Samoens (or the lift in Morillon). There is a regular free bus which takes 5 min's from Sixt. The bus stop is approximately a minute’s walk from the Chalet. Sixt is linked with Flaine via the very scenic 14km 'Cascades' blue run. There are 15 green, including the picturesque tree lined 'Marvel' run into Let Carroz, 53 blue, 51 red and 14 black. The Sixt ski area has a total of 11 runs including to black.
For more information take a look at the Grand Massif website.
THE PORTES DU SOLEIL AREA - (800m - 2466m)
Alternatively try Les Gets near Morzine (approximately 25 min's drive away) for the Portes du Soleil area. Weekly Grand Massif ski passes include one days skiing in this area.
There are some excellent restaurants and refuge’s in the mountains where you can enjoy an evening meal before either embarking on a midnight decent or a stay over in a secluded snow bowl. Ask your chalet representative for details of how to book during your stay.
Cross Country Skiing
Cross-country skiers will love the stunning tracks around the waterfalls of 'Fer à Cheval'. There are more than 60km of tracks in the area or enjoy superb views of Mont-Blanc from the 30 km of tracks at Joux Plane at 1700m.
Lesson and tours can also be booked at the ski-school.
Ice Climbing
In the summer the area is well know for it’s amazing waterfalls. However, these waterfalls freeze in the winter months and offer superb ice climbing. The ice climbing is second to none with one of the best climbs in Europe.
Snow Shoeing
Walking with snow shoes is an excellent way to experience the beauty of the mountains and of reaching areas usually made inaccessible by the snow. The cirque makes an excellent walking area, it’s frozen waterfalls are stunning and well worth a visit.
Dog Sledging
This traditional method of transportation is an incredible experience. The wide valley floor is perfect, you can rush along the snow, though the woods and the vast snowy fields.
If sport is not your thing…………………
You are perfectly situated to experience the best towns and traditions the alps has to offer.
There are traditional cheese making farms near by where you can see how cheese is made traditionally. There are wine caves, were you can test the local wines.
If you like shopping there are boutiques in near by Samoens, and also Geneva and Annecy. Annecy is a beautiful old town and well worth a visit. It is nicked named “ Venice of the Alps”, owing to the network of canals that run through the town.
